1. I finally did the button holes on the outfit for Etta and I royally messed up and tore a big hole in it. I called my mommy practically in tears and she’s going to try to fix it for me this weekend. I am so disappointed in myself.

2. I finished the boyfriend hat and then started another in some fuzzy yarn. It’s lime green and teal which isn’t the best combo, but I’m using up some scraps. This is mindless knitting for when I’m hanging out with Etta.

3. My socks are still in the works. I have turned the heels and picked up the gussets. Lots of fun, but I need to sort of pay attention to what I’m doing so I can’t get much done with the monkey around. I can’t wait to knit socks with pretty sock yarn.

4. I have yet to cast on the soaker longies I mentioned. I joined a soaker yarn club at Knit Fit Knitting and am waiting for my first shipment to arrive any day now. Hopefully it’ll be so purty that I won’t be able to resist it. I ordered the gender neutral colors so I can use them again with kid #2.

5. I’ve trimmed the puppy quilt, and machine stitched the binding to the front. Now I’m slowly hand sewing the binding to the back. I can’t wait to finish it and put it on the big bed in Etta’s room. But then I’ll have to finish the coordinating kitty quilt. It was cut way back when I did the puppy one, but it needs stitched. Heh. “Needs stitched.” I’ve been in Central Pennsylvania too long.

6. I made a cute fleece jumper for Etta, but I can’t get my machine to do the button holes because the fabric is too thick (4 layers of fleece there). I’m also taking this to mom’s for her help. Maybe I’ll have to stitch the button holes by hand? Ugh. I don’t even want to think of that.

7. I’m about 90% done with my Coraline swap box for the swap over at My Little Mochi. I’m going to finish it up on Sunday when I’m back from mom’s and then mail it out on the 16th (the deadline). I’ll also post some pics on Sunday. And when I get my box in the mail, I’ll also share my goodies with you.

8. I ordered yarn today for this cabled dress for Etta. It’ll take forever for it to get here though because their shipping is known for being slow. I also ordered 16″ and 24″ size 1 and 2 circulars for future socky goodness. Don’t be surprised when all you get for Christmas is a pair of socks. But at least they’ll be nice socks!

My camera is still at my mom’s (SINCE CHRISTMAS!) and I don’t know where Bill’s is. So no new pictures. Sorry folks.

Etta has been up late every night (18 month sleep regression anyone?) but tonight she went down at 8:45pm. No, it’s not her normal 7pm, but it’s better than 11:30. It started 2 weeks ago with some wicked teething (8 teeth total now) and was further complicated by the time change on Sunday. She amazes me every day. She has a bottomless stomach. She eats everything and then asks for more of it. She’s so smart and she repeats everything that I say (oops!). She says, “Oh MAN!” when she’s frustrated. What amazes me, is that not only does she say it with the exact intonation that I use, but she says it at the exact appropriate times! Please pat me on the back because I used to say, “Oh f*ck!”

Signing off. Need sleep.

Works in Progress

Filed under: Crafting & Quilting — yelnad @ 8:32 pm

1. I finally finished the hand sewing on the outfit in the last post. I still have do the button holes, buttons, and the hem on the blouse.

2. I have a Boyfriend Hat on needles.

Boyfriend hats

3. I have my first pair of socks on needles. (no pics yet)

4. I’m hoping to start another pair of soaker longies for Etta soon. This next pair will be in purples.

Etta in her ugly pants

5. I still need to trim and bind my puppy quilt.

But now I need to go get my screaming kid out of bed 😦

Edited 2/21/09 to add pics. I didn’t mean to only link to Ravelry (a knitting site for members only), but I had to take care of Etta 🙂

1. I went to Lowe’s to buy more closet pieces and they don’t carry the line anymore (although they say they do on the website!). Hmm. So do we head to Home Depot or re-evaluate our plans? We decided to reconfigure what we have and then actually build out the back wall of the closet with wood and shelf brackets that we already have. In the end, it saves us bucks. Good deal and still very happy with the closet.

2. I mentioned yesterday that I’m trying to de-plasticize our kitchen. We started with pyrex and anchor hocking glass storage containers (the AH even have glass lids!). I’m slowly removing all of the Rubbermaid. All heating and reheating in the microwave happens in glass containers. We’re drinking water from Klean Kanteen stainless steel bottles. Etta uses BPA free bottles and sippy cups. The problem? I am ADDICTED to ziplock bags. Must work on this.

3. It’s gloomy and gross out. Yes, I know it’s December but I could use a little sun. I had to go to Walmart yesterday so that I could absorb the bright lights and perk up a little.

4. My new craft is knitting. I need to post pics of some of my projects. I’ve really been enjoying it since I can do it snuggled in bed watching TV (something I can’t do with quilting).

To do list:

  1. Gather, wash & sort coats.
  2. Finish knitted sweater for Etta.
  3. Quilt puppy top for Etta.
  4. Etta’s roman shade.
  5. Laundry. Always laundry to do.
  6. Find permanent storage place for yarn and knitting accessories.
  7. Clean sewing room.
  8. Make ebay list.

I know there’s more…I just can’t think of it now. And I’m waiting on a space heater before I can do much in my sewing room. It’s between 55-59 degrees in there and just not comfortable for working.

New bunny dress

Filed under: Crafting & Quilting — yelnad @ 9:35 am

I made Etta Lee this cute bunny dress. Isn’t it adorable? I took the bunny on the fabric and enlarged it and appliqued it to the dress. I used bias tape to hem the dress. There’s a zipper up the back (which I apparently put in wrong, but my momma is going to teach me how to do it right).

I can’t wait for Etta to wear this to church. Too cute!! And I’m so happy to have finished something I’ve started!

Monkey snuggles.

Today I was able to take a shower, put meat and veggies in the crock pot, wrap 3 gifts, and make one ornament, in addition to the normal baby feeding, pottying, and cuddling. Pretty impressive, eh? I don’t expect to get much more than that done over the next 3 days while Bill is out of town. I’ll probably eat bagels with cream cheese and leftover venison stew the whole time he’s gone.

I think I’m almost done with my Christmas prep. Well, not really.  I have a list:

  • decorate top 2 ft of tree; add silver pipe cleaner icicles.
  • pick out gift for brother’s girlfriend from things I already have made
  • finish making 2 ornaments
  • take xmas photos and order holiday/new years cards
  • get presents together for friends (um, friends? your presents will arrive after xmas)
  • finish secret sewing project
  • finish bibs for Etta
  • find gift for Uncle Jerry
  • find gift(s) for Bill

On Saturday, Etta Lee held her own bottle while she ate. It was most likely by accident, but it was very cool. I can’t wait for her to be able to knowingly grab and hold things. It will make a huge difference in her quality of life. And mine. Tonight I put her to bed wide awake. I thought she was sleepy, but the story she’s telling from the other room is evidence to the contrary. At least she’s happy. This little girl knows what she wants and is eager to tell us so we’ll fix it for her. For the past two days, it’s been pants. Or no pants, actually. She does not want t0 wear footy pants during the day, so off they come.

Oops. The batteries in her jungle mobile just died, resulting in some mild shrieking so now she’s snuggled into my shoulder. She should be asleep and back into her bed in the next 20 minutes or so.  Off to snuggle my little monkey.

New diaper bags!

Filed under: Crafting & Quilting — yelnad @ 9:58 am

It’s about time that I start reporting to you all what I’ve been up to. You’ve probably have been thinking that I’m just taking a lot of pregnancy naps. Well, be assured that I am, but I’ve also been VERY busy in my sewing room getting ready for an upcoming craft show.

New diaper bag

This is the diaper bag that I made for myself (click on it to see other views). It has 11 pockets, is fully lined, has very strong handles, and totally kicks butt! I’ll be making more of them and adding them to my etsy store after the craft show the first weekend of August. I’ll also be taking custom orders for them. It’s not my own design, but I will have a cottage license soon so that I can sell them.

Love and hugs, d.

Merry Christmas!

I thought I might spend today trying to figure out my mom’s serger sewing machine. I’ve always wanted a serger, and have even gone so far as to say that I needed one. I just read the 100 page instruction booklet from beginning to end and I must say that I have no idea how to use it, even after all that. If anyone out there knows how to use an Elna 744, you are cordially invited to spend a weekend at my house.

The offending machine:

Mom's Elna 744 Overlock

I told myself that I wasn’t going to sew today, but I don’t know what I’m going to do instead. Maybe I’ll do some cutting. Maybe I’ll read. Maybe I’ll stare at the tree until my eyes cross. Maybe I will sew. I’m so well rounded.

Have a happy holiday. We leave for Japan in 2 days and we’re muy excited!

Tis the season…

I always have the hardest time buying presents for my Grandmas. They don’t want anything. They have almost everything. And if you buy them something they don’t have, there is usually a reason they don’t have it. For example, Grams and Cliff will never use an answering machine.

So this year they get steak and a framed photo. Everyone can use steak, right?

Last week I made some more purses:

Purple bag, inside view

This week I’m run down with some sort of bug or holiday blahs. I was home yesterday and today. I wish I could say that I was able to put the time to good use and get some sewing done, but I haven’t been able to. I’ve read, watched TV, and napped. The movie “Cars” is the best movie I saw this year. It was great! You should see it.

Overdue update….

Hi. I’ve been seriously neglecting my blog…more than usual, even, and this makes me sad. While I have been having a great time with my new found love of sewing, I just don’t think that my friends would find it as exciting. This is what I made today:

Very cute purse

Cool, eh? You can click on it to see more pics of it. I think it took me less than 4 hours and it was the first purse I have ever made. I made it on my 1955 Featherweight sewing machine. My new fancy machine is currently in the shop. You wanna know what? I think I like the FW better. It sews a perfect stitch and doesn’t do any extra things to complicate your sewing. It sews forward and backward and that’s it. I did need to use my old Kenmore for a zigzag, but now that I’m done with the purse, it really didn’t need it.
1955 Featherweight
More to come, I promise you. I’m also selling items that I craft through The Quilted Lion on etsy. You should really check etsy out. There are some amazing things to be found there — just don’t look unless you have money to spend. I wish I had more time to make things to list. Currently I have a lot of half finished projects that have been put aside.
Christmas is coming and that’s where most of my craft energies have been directed. I’m making things for most of my family members and various friends.

Love to you all, Donna.
