Etta’s 18 month doctor visit

Filed under: Etta Lee — yelnad @ 12:12 pm

Etta had her 18 month ped visit this morning. She was cranky and fussy, but she’s had a nasty cold/cough the last few days. She weighs 19.1 lbs and is 29.5 inches tall. 3% in both categories. The PA was concerned about those numbers, but she consulted with the Dr and he wasn’t. (I wasn’t concerned myself — we’re little people). On the other hand, her 47.1cm head circumference is in the 61st percentile. 🙂

She had her fourth DTaP and I think we’re done with vaxes until we hit school age at 4 or 5. And then we’ll revisit.

Our normal Dr canceled for a family emergency, but they were able to squeeze us in with a PA. I didn’t want to reschedule because of her nasty cold. She does have an ear infection in her right ear and they put her on amoxicillin. I haven’t really researched antibiotics much since we’ve had no need for them until now. Any thoughts?

Is there normally a 21 month appt? We skipped 15 months b/c I didn’t want to expose her to dr office germs in December just for height/weight check. I was going to skip 21 (if there is one), but the PA said to come back for a “growth check.” I’m not sure I want to do that as long as she’s healthy. My insurance only covers up to $500 of care a year (well child, vaxes, sick visits) and I don’t want to “waste” it in case she really needs to go later. Money isn’t the deciding factor — I’ll pay out of pocket if I need to, but this just seems silly. I’ve only really weighed over 100 lbs myself when I was pregnant. Bill was also a scrawny kid. All that said, the PA was great. I would definitely see her again when my preferred Dr isn’t available.

Other than that, all is well. We’ve transitioned to one nap a day, usually for 2 hours after an early lunch. Etta is a climber — she walks on window sills and gets onto the dinner table whenever she can. She’s a big helper when mom cleans or does the laundry. She also LOVES to be outside and throws a fit whenever we come in. She likes to care for her “babies” (the garden gnomes!) and play in dirt. She checks the bird feeders to make sure the birds have food. She plays basketball with her daddy and slam dunks when he lefts her up. Good thing the hoop is adjustable 😉

She follows simple commands and is starting to use small phrases (of real words). She talks to her Grammie on Skype almost every day. Actually, the kid never really shuts up and chatters all the time (must get that from her Daddy). She knows what dogs, kitties, sheep, and cows say. Her new love is Dora. She can blow her nose with a kleenex and still loves to unroll the toilet paper rolls.

Yay for Etta Lee!!

1. I finally did the button holes on the outfit for Etta and I royally messed up and tore a big hole in it. I called my mommy practically in tears and she’s going to try to fix it for me this weekend. I am so disappointed in myself.

2. I finished the boyfriend hat and then started another in some fuzzy yarn. It’s lime green and teal which isn’t the best combo, but I’m using up some scraps. This is mindless knitting for when I’m hanging out with Etta.

3. My socks are still in the works. I have turned the heels and picked up the gussets. Lots of fun, but I need to sort of pay attention to what I’m doing so I can’t get much done with the monkey around. I can’t wait to knit socks with pretty sock yarn.

4. I have yet to cast on the soaker longies I mentioned. I joined a soaker yarn club at Knit Fit Knitting and am waiting for my first shipment to arrive any day now. Hopefully it’ll be so purty that I won’t be able to resist it. I ordered the gender neutral colors so I can use them again with kid #2.

5. I’ve trimmed the puppy quilt, and machine stitched the binding to the front. Now I’m slowly hand sewing the binding to the back. I can’t wait to finish it and put it on the big bed in Etta’s room. But then I’ll have to finish the coordinating kitty quilt. It was cut way back when I did the puppy one, but it needs stitched. Heh. “Needs stitched.” I’ve been in Central Pennsylvania too long.

6. I made a cute fleece jumper for Etta, but I can’t get my machine to do the button holes because the fabric is too thick (4 layers of fleece there). I’m also taking this to mom’s for her help. Maybe I’ll have to stitch the button holes by hand? Ugh. I don’t even want to think of that.

7. I’m about 90% done with my Coraline swap box for the swap over at My Little Mochi. I’m going to finish it up on Sunday when I’m back from mom’s and then mail it out on the 16th (the deadline). I’ll also post some pics on Sunday. And when I get my box in the mail, I’ll also share my goodies with you.

8. I ordered yarn today for this cabled dress for Etta. It’ll take forever for it to get here though because their shipping is known for being slow. I also ordered 16″ and 24″ size 1 and 2 circulars for future socky goodness. Don’t be surprised when all you get for Christmas is a pair of socks. But at least they’ll be nice socks!

My camera is still at my mom’s (SINCE CHRISTMAS!) and I don’t know where Bill’s is. So no new pictures. Sorry folks.

Etta has been up late every night (18 month sleep regression anyone?) but tonight she went down at 8:45pm. No, it’s not her normal 7pm, but it’s better than 11:30. It started 2 weeks ago with some wicked teething (8 teeth total now) and was further complicated by the time change on Sunday. She amazes me every day. She has a bottomless stomach. She eats everything and then asks for more of it. She’s so smart and she repeats everything that I say (oops!). She says, “Oh MAN!” when she’s frustrated. What amazes me, is that not only does she say it with the exact intonation that I use, but she says it at the exact appropriate times! Please pat me on the back because I used to say, “Oh f*ck!”

Signing off. Need sleep.

1. It seems that a couple of my blogging friends are using lists in their posts. I like it. It’s neat and organized. I think I’ll try it. My absence here can be explained by an addiction to Facebook. For real.

2. We had a very nice Christmas with a only a few snags (I had the flu earlier in the week and some packages arrived the day after Christmas). Etta had a great time opening gifts and has been playing hard ever since. We celebrated with my family over the weekend and spent the actual Christmas Day here at home. I don’t think I’d ever been home for Christmas in my life until this year. It was nice. But different

3. We had a very nice master closet (7×10′) but I decided to mess with it and make it better. The last 2 nights have been spent sleeping in Etta’s room or on the floor because our bed is covered in clothes. Although the organizer installation won’t be complete tonight (we still need to purchase a few more pieces), I’m hoping that most of the clothes will be returned to the closet and I’ll be able to sleep in my own bed.

4. Nap time has been trying lately. Our little girl is growing up and her body is adjusting and stomping our beautiful schedule all to shit. I think we’re moving away from 2 naps a day, but she’s still not quite ready for one nap. I tried to keep her up today and she almost fell asleep in her lunch.

5. I don’t have to return to the office until January 13th, although I do have some work to do at home. Right now, January 13th seems like a LONG way away.

6. We spent $13k on a new furnace. It’s sort of nice and it’s saving us a bundle every month, but it’s not heating our house evenly and this is bugging me. We need them to come back out and fix it.

Until next time…

A trip to CVS

Etta and a bowl So here’s Etta Lee playing with a glass bowl. You can find a whole set of pictures on flickr.

I went shopping at CVS today:

CVS Deal #1:
I bought:
Gillete Fusion Razor – $9.99
Schick Quattro Titanium Refill – $9.49
Huggies Jumbo Supreme – $7.99
Listerine Smart Rinse – $3.49
CVS Baby Wipes (160 ct) – $3.99
Huggies Bath/Body Wash – $3.49
2 candy bars – $1.00
Total = $39.44 + tax

I used the following coupons:
$4.00 off Gillette manufactures coupon
$2.00 off Schick man.
$2.00 off Huggies CVS coupon
$1.00 off Huggies man.
$1.00 off Huggies bath man.
$1.00 off Listerine man.
$5 off purchase of $30 CVS coupon

Then I used $19.38 (10.00 + 9.38) in ECBs (Extra Care Bucks) that I had earned in the past.

I earned the following ECBs:
$4 Gillette
$5 Schick
$3.49 Listerine
$2 Huggies Bath
Total: $14.49 in ECBs to use toward future purchase.

Then I went in again:
CVS Deal #2:

Huggies Jumbo Supreme – $7.99
Huggies Wipes 232 count – $7.99
Listerine Smart Rinse – $3.49
CVS Cotton Swabs – $3.79
12 pack of Scott tissue – $5.99
2 pack of teethers – $2.99
Total: $32.24

I used the following coupons:
$1 off Huggies man. coupon
$.50 of Huggies wipes man.
$5 off $25 purchase CVS

And paid with the following ECBs: $2 + $3.49 + $4 + $5 + 7.58 = $22.07

Total out of pocket: $3.67

And I earned the following ECBs:
$3.49 LIsterine
$2 Cotton Swabs
$2 Huggies wipes
$7.49 to use in the future

So, grand total out of pocket was $7.73 and I have another $7.49 for next time. I had it all planned out to spend less than $1 total out of pocket for both transactions, but they never have everything that I’m looking for and then I have to substitute things on the fly and do the math while I’m searching.

A good resource on how to do this is A Full Cup.

Cool, eh>

6 months

Filed under: Etta Lee — yelnad @ 8:57 pm

Click through to see more pictures of Etta Lee at 6 months.

We had an active week. We spent Easter at Grammie’s house and then Grammie and Luna came here for a week. We stayed pretty busy and even went on Etta’s first overnight vacation to Lancaster. We saw lots of pretty quilts, bought some great fabrics, and Etta swam in a big pool for the first time.

We’re past the 6 month point now. Etta has not only mastered rolling over, but she has figured out that it’s a means of motoring and that she can get somewhere by rolling over and over. She’s clonked her head a couple of times, but she’s a tough cookie. She’s had a few bites of banana, but I’m skipping baby food and not giving her solids until she wants them. She’s teething hard and puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. She’s extremely communicative and tells us when she is hungry or wet or bored. She’s pretty easy to read. I swear she can say the word, “HI!” already.

A meme from Nan:

Write your own six word memoir. Post it on your blog, including an illustration if you’d like. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to the original post if possible so that it can be tracked as it travels across the blogosphere.

This was hard, but I think most moms would agree:

The smiles make everything worth it.

A trip to CVS

Filed under: Etta Lee,Saving Money — yelnad @ 10:43 pm

Here’s Etta Lee at Grammie’s house on Tuesday morning before we drove back home through an ice storm. We’re fine, but I don’t want to talk about it. Ugh.

So, I’ve discovered CVS. Let me introduce you to the wonder.

I’ve always shopped at CVS for my prescriptions and when formula is on sale, but this was my first planned trip. Because of where I live, I’ll only get to CVS once a week. After this initial trip, I hope to not have to pay much OOP (out of pocket) anymore (most people who do this spent no more than $1 each trip after the initial trip).

I went in armed with a list and my coupons.

Today I purchased:
1 Dawn ultra (25c mfg) = 72c
6 12 packs of Pepsi products – 2.99*6 = 17.94
4 2L Pepsi products – 3 for $4 plus 1 free Dew
1 can 25.7oz Similac formula ($5 formula check) = 17.99
2 Mach3 Razors (2 * $3 mfg)= 9.98
5 colgate advance (50c, 75c, 1.00, 1.50)= 11.20
They didn’t have everything I wanted, like the other razors that were on sale, but they will be on sale next week, too.

I used $2/10 ($2 off a $10 purchase )and $5/15 and got .01c off for scanning my triple ECB coupon.

Total OOP (OutOfPocket) = $56.35
ECB (ExtraCareBucks) earned = $24.95 (2*$5 Mach3 = $14.95 Colgate). You can use these like cash next purchase!
I also got $2.50 off CVS purchase of $10 for next time.

In the end, I figure I’m only out $28.90, which is only a couple bucks more than the formula would usually cost! And formula is something that we have to buy anyway. This is what makes shopping at CVS so amazing. Plus, we put it on Discover for the cashback and we also get UPromise cash back. Sure, we bought a few things we don’t need, but they WERE FREE!! The razors and the toothpaste actually earned me money! They are paying me to shop at CVS!

YAY! I can’t wait to plan the next trip.

Etta in her new HotSling

Today Miss Etta went to visit her pediatrician. She was a little show off, shrieking and jabbering for the doctor. She rolled over for her and wanted to walk right off the exam table. Etta weighs 13 lb 4 oz and is 25″ tall.

The picture above is with our new Hotsling pouch. It’s really nice for quick ins/outs and it makes us look cool, too.

Etta Lee is 5 months old

Filed under: Etta Lee — yelnad @ 4:47 pm

So much for being a blogging maniac.

Etta Lee turned 5 months old yesterday and she is surprising us every day with new things. I won’t put her binky in her mouth anymore. I put it in her hand and she has to put it in herself. If she insists I put the binky in, then I put it in upside down. She sucks on it for a few seconds and then laughs and flips it over.

She loves her jumperoo and dancing with Mommy and Daddy. She also enjoys watching Sesame Street (don’t judge me). She likes to lie across Mommy or Daddy’s lap with her head hanging off upside down. She prefers to have her toes free (no socks or sleepers over her toes!) so she can play with them. Playing airplane is lots of fun and so is laying on her playmat and batting and kicking the hanging fish.

Etta can roll her bottom half over, but doesn’t quite follow through with her top half yet. But she can roll off Mommy’s lap if they’re on the bed. She likes to go to the Waffle Shop with Aunt Courtney and Uncle “Rock Star” Kenny. She chews on spoons instead of waffles. She likes to go to Walmart because Mommy always finds something to buy her. Today we bought blue sneakers because we’ve already outgrown 2 pairs of pink ones.

She chatters up a storm. She used to talk to Grammie on the phone every day, but now she’s too fascinated with Grammie’s voice, so she stays quiet and listens. She likes to touch Daddy’s goatee and pull on Mommy’s nose. She has a check up next week, so we’ll report on her weight and length then.
